Treasurer's Report: Reviewed the budget for 2011. Gene Kramer made corrections on his computer and will e-mail final budget to Exec. Committee.
Proposed to change "Prayer Advocacy" line item to "Upper Room Prayer Line" made by Reggie Hockin; supported by John Walls. Passed
Gene reported the following amounts available:
Society of St. Andrew $ 830.00
Strength for Service $ 965.00
Discussion about how to increase income for the conference. Moved by Lee Donley to set a Conference charter fee at $15.00 per chartering unit; seconded by Mel Scott.
Motion to amend the amount to $25.00 and by Bob Saunders. Died for lack of support.
Motion to amend the amount to $20.00, was seconded by Saunders and passed.
John Walls spoke against the motion pointing out that increases in annual charter fees and EMS have had a negative effect on charters and EMS memberships. Additionally, Conference UMM sponsor four Ministry Jubilee accounts which we do not know about donation and which we do not promote or publicize. Adding a new charter fee will have a negative effect on future charters. Let's work the system, publicize or MJ accounts and encourage participation in Annual Charters and EMS.
Original motion as amended was defeated.
Annual Meeting: Publicity going out on Website and Conference e-mail.
Slate of Officers for 2011 will be presented as follows:
President James Walker
Vice President Mel Scott
Secretary John Walls
Treasurer Eugene Kramer
Jim Walker suggests keeps same goals for next year except the bible verse goal. Wants to come up with something more measurable. Goal was finalized as 14 new charters and 50 new EMS per District.

U. M. M. DETROIT CONFERENCE - EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Hope UMC, Flint, MI
JUNE 19, 2010
Present: Jim Walker President, Eugene Kramer Treasurer, Reggie Hockin, Prayer Advocate, Al Ludwig MSAH, Bruce Gulliver Editor of the Log, Peter Thoms acting Secretary.
Meeting called to order by Pres. Walker at 10:15

REPORTS
Secretary's Report: None -John Walls did not submit them.
Gene gave the Treas. report which was accepted and filed. The report detailed expenses and deposits for the year to date and indicated a checkbook balance of$8,487.27. Of this $1,503.00 is designated for distribution to "Strength For Service" ($865), Hunger Relief ($431) and Meals for Millions ($207).
The report also points out that against Budget of $7,250 we have spent to date $4,160.96. We anticipate very little further expenses for the remainder of the year.
Gene also brought to our attention that there still are a number of outstanding checks that have not been cashed dating as far back as '06.
MOTION by Peter to void all outstanding checks that are dated '08 and before. It was seconded by Al. After a brief discussion the motion passed unanimously.
Gene asked about what to do with the money for "Hunger Relief." By consensus he was instructed to write a check to "Meals for Millions" in the amount of$838.00 which will include our $200 budgeted for the same.
Hunger relief - no report
MSAH - Al reported that there was nothing new to report.
Scouting - No Report. Jim informed us that the Port Huron District is putting on a Scouting Centennial Encampment at Alpena Sept. 23-25 and have invited us to display and promotional material we wished in conjunction with our involvement with scouting.
Districts: Jim informed us that Det. conf UMM is now in second place in the SoS donations of money. He also noted that the Ann Arbor Dist is getting new DS and hopefully help us get that District reactivated into UMM.
BILLS PAYABLE - NONE
ANNUAL CONFERENCE - Jim discussed his presentation at Annual conference using the analogy of linkage in a chain to emphasize the need for connectivity of men.
Ice Cream Social - More money was collected this year compared to last. However contributions fell approximately $100 short of expenses. Jim suggested that next year we designate all contributions for "Hunger Relief" and that we publish the same. The cost of the event would then come out of our treasury. No decision was made in response to Jim's suggestion.
GOALS PROGRESS: Jim talked with Frances Shelby, pastor at Coleman UMC about chartering the men at her church. He intends to make a trip for that purpose soon.
Strength for Service - has not garnered the expected support. Most churches have not responded with a number of books they intend to "buy"
Meals for Millions - Money continues to be donated. The $1.00 per man has not been used by most churches. Material handed out by Jim shows that over half of our churches register no men.
SAGINAW/BAY FALL RETREAT; October 1, 2. Each church is encouraged to send one representative. It will be near Gladwin.
GCUMM; We have sent our pledge of $1000.
OLD BUSINESS; Our Annual business meeting of the DC UMM will be held at Essexville UMC Oct. 30 from 10:00 - 12:00 and will include lunch. Jim suggested that we invite Rev. Don Gerber to be the Key Note Speaker. His suggestion was accepted unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS; A budget will have to be presented first to the Board and then at the Annual Meeting. We asked Gene to assess our current Budget and make the adjustments he feels needed and then present that to the Board at our next meeting.
Nominations - no discussion
The idea of a Conference Partner Fee of $25 be requested of each church was presented by Jim. Alternatives to raising the needed budget money was discussed. No decision was made. We noted that UMM is a "Spot Light" listing. No funds have been forthcoming from that.
NEXT MEETING OF THE BOARD; 9/11 at Hope UMC in Flint at 10:00
ADJOURNMENT AT 12:00 after prayer by Reggie.

Discussion about the LOG and how to improve communications:
-better use of space could improve readership[
-use of abbreviations is confusing to readers, i.e. CEC
-do we need all of the various logos on every issue?
-Jim Walker will talk with the graphics arts person that helped Flint District with their Spiritual Growth Conference publicity and promotion.
-primary question is how can we best communicate with local UMM groups and individual UMM
Lee requested input for the Annual Conference:
-Upper Room Prayer ministry
-Scouting and youth activities
-Meals for Millions/Society if St. Andrew
-Strength for Service
-P.E.T. project (Flint District)
-Men’s Gathering
-No Man Left Behind
-Potato Drop
Meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.

Devotion was given by Peter Thoms. What is desirable to us more than anything? He spoke about Solomon's request of the Lord and spoke on John 15:7 and John 16:24 about abiding in Jesus and if it's done, what we ask in Jesus will be done for us. He talked about the power the church has and about Jesus telling Moses that wherever Moses goes, He, Jesus will go. Dr. Thoms told us we need to make Jesus number one in our life. We should be a catalyst to affect the church. He stated than our most important job is to declare Jesus Christ.
Books were offered for sale at $7.00 each. Peter Thoms said that today we are here to vision and closed with a prayer.
